Dehradun:-The Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Sh. Thawar Chand Gehlot laid foundation stone of a building with an estimated cost of 6.5 crore rupees at National Institute for Visually Handicapped (NIVH) in Dehradun today. He also distributed tricycles, smart phones and other digital gazettes worth 2 crore rupees to the handicapped students at a function organized at the NIVH on the Children’s Day to commemorate 125th birth anniversary of the first Prime Minister of India Sh. Jawahar Lal Nehru. Shri Gehlot also garlanded photo of Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru on the occasion.
Applauding the role played by the NIVH in the field of self dependence among the visually handicapped, the Minister assured the gathering to do his best to get an status of university or that of an eminent institute like IIT or the IIM to the NIVH. He said that during the current year scholarships worth more than 75 crore rupees have been sanctioned by his Ministry for the handicapped students. The Minister also released 3 books specially designed for the visually handicapped, on this occasion.

Anuradha Mohit Dalmia were also present at the occasion.
